This recipe is sponsored by Jones Dairy Farm and all opinions are my own, as always.

This grain free and paleo sausage apple cornbread skillet is packed with protein, savory, sweet and comforting. Have it for breakfast, brunch or dinner. Gluten free and dairy free.

Sausage and apples is definitely one of my favorite breakfast combinations.

Whether it’s simple hash with eggs, or something a bit fancier like this cornbread skillet, the savory sweet flavors get me every time!

This skillet is easy to prepare, great for a holiday brunch or for any weekend morning.

You can serve it alone or with a drizzle of maple syrup to play up the sweet flavors.  Let’s get into all the recipe details!

What You Need to Make This Sausage Apple Cornbread Skillet

Sausage and Apples:

olive oilJones Dairy Farm All Natural Pork Sausagesonionhoney crisp or jonagold applesground cinnamonsea salt and black pepper, to taste

Cornbread Topping:

eggs dairy free milk raw honey Ghee or vegan butterblanched almond flouraluminum free baking powderfine sea salt

How to Make This Sausage Apple Cornbread Skillet

Preheat your oven to 375°F, then heat a 9” ovenproof skillet over medium high heat and add the oil or ghee.

Add the sausage and cook about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned.  Lower the heat to medium and add the onions, then cook another 3-4 minutes until soft and fragrant.  Season with sea salt and black pepper, then remove from heat and set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, honey or maple syrup and ghee or butter.  Add in the almond flour, baking powder and salt and mix well to form a batter.

Drain excess fat from the sausage skillet, then add the apples and cinnamon and stir to coat.  Spread the cornbread batter over the top of the sausage apple mixture evenly.  Bake in the preheated oven for 22-25 minutes or until the cornbread layer is set and turning golden brown on top.

Allow the skillet to cool for about 10 minutes before serving.  For extra sweetness, drizzle on a little pure maple syrup.
