These easy grilled steak tacos are perfect for taco Tuesdays or any night! The steak has the most flavorful chili lime marinade and the tacos are made with grain free tortillas to keep them Paleo and your favorite taco toppings complete the meal!
Once June hits all I want to do is use the grill! For one thing, the cleanup is easier for things like burgers and steaks.
That’s HUGE for me! As much as I love pan frying burgers it’s really nice to keep all the smoke outside.
Anyway, steak is probably my favorite thing to grill. I don’t cook it as often to begin with so it always feels like a special occasion.
The marinade for today’s steak is SO good.
You could really just have the steak alone and be happy, but of course tacos are super fun.
And it’s really tough for me to pass up avocado! Plus I’ve been obsessed with the cassava tortillas from Siete Foods ever since I made these paleo chicken enchiladas!
Time to get into the delicious recipe details now 🙂
What You Need to Make These Grilled Steak Tacos
This recipe, as I mentioned, is really all about the marinade! Here’s everything you’ll need to prepare the steak tacos:
flank steak or skirt steakfresh limesavocado or olive oilcoconut aminoschili powdersmoked paprikagarlic powdercinnamonSea salt and black pepperCassava Flour Tortillas (or other grain free tortillas)red onionavocadocilantrooptional toppings – fresh salsa, dairy free queso (like Siete Foods) or dairy free sour cream (like Kite Hill)
How to Make Grilled Steak Tacos
Place the steak in a large shallow bowl. Whisk together the lime zest and juice, oil, coconut amounts, and spices and pour over the steak.
Turn the steak a couple of times, with tongs, to fully coat, then sprinkle both sides generously with sea salt and black pepper.
Allow the steak to marinade for about 30 minutes at room temperature, OR cover and refrigerate for an hour or longer.
Preheat your grill, grill pan or cast iron skillet to medium high heat and brush with oil. Once sizzling hot, add the steak (lightly shake off excess marinade, leaving some on) and cook to desired doneness, about 10-12 minutes total depending on the thickness of your cut of steak.
Transfer the cooked steak to a cutting board, cover lightly with foil to keep warm, and allow it to sit while you heat your tortillas.
Brush your grill or skillet with more oil and heat your tortillas for 30-45 seconds on each side, or until softened. Lay the tortillas on a platter, or individual plates.
Thinly slice the steak and arrange it over the tortillas followed by the avocado, onions, cilantro and any additional toppings you choose (see ingredients).
How to Prep These Steak Tacos Ahead of Time
You can easily prep everything ahead of time for this recipe.
Simply whisk together the marinade and store it in a lidded container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days before marinating the steak.
The steak should only be marinated for up to a few hours, so plan to make the marinade ahead of time, separate from the steak, if you need to prep earlier than that.
The grain free tortillas are easily heated up right before serving, and you can put them on the grill while you’re cooking the steak to save time!
Then, all you’ll need to do it grill and slice the steak, grab your toppings and dice the avocado. You can chop your onion and cilantro ahead of time to save a few minutes too.
I hope you’re ready for super easy, totally delicious STEAK TACOS that will easily become a favorite for grilling season and beyond!
Grab your ingredients and start prepping because it’s time to eat – let’s go!
